Chan School of Public Health carried out a large-scale study on how lifestyle choices affect lifespan, drawing on information from the well-known Nurses’ Health Study (NHS) and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study (HPFS). This gave them access to extensive data covering a very large group of people across many years. The NHS tracked more than 78,000 women between 1980 and 2014, while the HPFS followed over 40,000 men from 1986 to 2014. Altogether, that’s more than 120,000 individuals, with 34 years of data for women and 28 years for men.
